Common Questions

What is online therapy like?

If you have used video platforms like Zoom or FaceTime, you have a good idea of what meeting with me online would be like. Many clients prefer meeting online because it is easier to fit into a busy schedule. Some are concerned about whether or not they will be able to connect with the therapist in the same way as a face-to-face meeting. While teletherapy is different in some ways, studies have shown that it is just as effective as face-to-face therapy in most cases. Please see this article for more information: https://www.apa.org/monitor/2020/07/cover-telepsychology.

How long will I need therapy?

Every client’s situation is unique. The length of time a person needs to stay in therapy depends on individual goals and needs. Some clients are able to meet their goals in just a few sessions, while others are aware that they have deeper and more long-term needs. After doing a complete assessment, I would be glad to give you my opinion about your unique case.

Is therapy confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist.  No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.

However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule.  Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, the therapist is required to notify the police.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.

 What are your fees?

New Clients:

Initial Intake Session (up to 55 minutes): $125

 Established Clients:

I am able to offer discounted rates on a very limited basis.

 How are payments made?

Payments can be made by credit card. Please note, unless you have an illness or emergency, there will be an automatic $25 fee for canceling an appointment within 24 hours of your scheduled time. Appointments canceled or rescheduled with more than 24 hours’ notice will not be charged.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I am an in-network provider for the following:

  • Medicare

  • United Healthcare/Optum

  • Cigna

  • Beacon

  • EAP programs: Baycare, New Directions, Cigna, All One

If your insurance is not listed above, I can provide you with documentation that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Please note: Insurance companies require that clients meet minimal diagnostic criteria. Some clients desire counseling even though they do not meet criteria for clinical diagnosis, and some clients prefer not to use their insurance benefits. Paying privately gives you more privacy and control over your treatment and removes the need to receive a mental health diagnosis to satisfy your insurance company.
